Designers do a job. They should not have to do it for free.

Just a little disappointed. Baker Street Babes just put out a call for a graphic artist, but offered no compensation for their work.

Graphic designers do a job. Do a service. A service the Babes use to raise money to fund their projects.

As far as I know, they are not a charity, so the designer’s work is not eligible for tax deduction.

Devaluing design work, even for “fan” purposes, devalues all design work.

How can I expect to charge $300 for a half-page black and white ad (which is what I charge, and is a fair price) when someone will do it for free?

Just needed to get that off my chest.

Made up another set of these lyrics prints for my dad for Christmas (yes, I know I’m a bit late… or very, very early, as Bitty pointed out the other day.)

Thinking about offering prints of these (and the ones I made for my brother) up for sale on Etsy. And also the possibility of offering custom-made ones with whatever song you would want.

Would anyone be interested in that?

HEY GUYS, THIS IS A HOAX. Please do not believe everything you see on Tumblr.

Yup, that thing is called an “eyemark” and it is there only to tell the packaging machine when to cut the tube. It’s printed in the darkest color on the package, which is usually black, but not all packages have black ink in the design. Some machines use UV light to read invisible eyemarks, and some use reverse eyemarks, especially if the packaging is dark (i.e. a white strip instead of a color).

Hope you like it! I use Sakura Micron pens. I just bought them a few days ago and they are WONDERFUL. No bleeding! Different widths! Super black ink! I highly recommend them.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Art with a concentration in Graphic Design. I’ve held a number of graphic design jobs (tshirt screenprinter, newspaper ad designer, flexographic prepress tech) but I’ve found that I get burnt out so quickly working those sorts of jobs. I’m much happier working in something COMPLETELY NOT graphic design (like my job at the hospital currently) to pay the bills and doing what I want to do graphic-design-wise (like the signatures!) in my free time.
